A United Kingdom-based philanthropist, Chief (Mrs.) Dorcas Adeyinka, has publicly challenged her recent declaration as “wanted,” alleging that she was falsely accused and unlawfully listed in a police bulletin without being given a fair opportunity to defend herself. The Ogun State Ministry of Justice has raised the alarm over the increasing misuse of the criminal justice system to settle disputes that are purely civil in nature, warning that the practice undermines the rule of law and violates citizens’ constitutional rights. The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, who disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta, said matters involving contracts, tenancy, domestic relationships and land ownership are increasingly being taken to the police instead of civil courts. Gateway Mortgage Bank Limited, a wholly-owned bank by the Ogun State Government has been approved as one of the partner banks to access the Real Estate Investment Fund of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MREIF). The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has strongly condemned the reckless driving habits of some truck operators plying the Sango–Ota corridor, following a fatal accident at the Ota Toll Gate area that claimed seven lives. The crash, which involved a trailer tanker reportedly affected by brake failure, resulted in the deaths of six men and one woman. Two other victims — a male and a female — sustained critical injuries and are currently receiving medical attention. In total, nine persons were involved in the tragic incident. Dangote Group has signed a $400 million construction equipment agreement with XCMG Construction Machinery Co., Ltd., one of China’s leading manufacturers of construction machinery, in a move set to accelerate the expansion of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day, positioning it to become the largest refinery in the world. The Ogun State Government has disclosed that it has constructed over 1,600 kilometres of roads since 2019 and is working towards completing at least 2,000 kilometres before the end of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s tenure.
