ICYMI: Senate Advances Nwoko’s Agric Bill, College To Be Sited In Idumuje-Ugboko

The Senate Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions has approved the bill sponsored by Senator Ned Munir Nwoko for the establishment of a Federal College of Agriculture in Idumuje-Ugboko, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The Bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal College of Agriculture, Idumuje-Ugboko, Delta State, and for Matters Related Thereto”, was introduced on the floor of the Senate on March 27, 2025, and has since passed through key legislative processes.

Following its first reading, the Bill was referred to the Senate Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions for further consideration. After deliberations, the committee gave its nod, describing the bill as timely and essential to boosting agricultural education and development in the region.

According to the committee’s official report, “The intent of the Bills to establish Federal Colleges of Agriculture in Efon Alaye, Afashio, Idumuje, Yauri, Isoko and Afon is a welcome development, especially as the colleges will boost agricultural development in the country.”

The report also affirmed that, “The Bills conform to normative drafting standards, and the establishment of the Colleges will serve as an incentive to encourage agricultural practices in the respective areas.”

Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North and also serves as a member of the Senate Constitution Review Committee, has consistently advocated for the revival of agricultural education and food production as a pathway to job creation and rural development.

The proposed Federal College of Agriculture, when fully established, is expected to serve as a centre for innovation, training, and research for the South-South and beyond.
