Ogun Cracks Down on Unapproved Motorcycle Associations, Warns Against Illegal Revenue Collection

The Ogun State Government has commenced a crackdown on unapproved motorcycle operators’ associations operating across the state, warning them to immediately stop the illegal collection of revenues, levies and other government-related charges from commercial motorcycle operators. The government said only three motorcycle operators’ associations—ROMO, AMORAN and ACCOMORAN—are currently recognised and permitted to operate on public roads and parks in Ogun State. It described the activities of unapproved associations as a violation of the state’s regulatory framework, saying their continued operations undermine the proper regulation of commercial motorcycle transportation, threaten public peace and order, and lead to the illegal collection of revenues that should accrue to government. The National Executive Council of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Alumni Association (MAPALUM) has expressed profound grief over the sudden passage of veteran journalist, publisher and founder of The Eagle Online, Mr Dotun Oladipo, describing his death as a monumental loss to the Association, his alma mater and the Nigerian media industry. More facts have emerged on why the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested and detained the former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa. According to a concluded investigation reports of the  EFCC, one of the principal financial transactions examined involved approximately ₦96 billion linked to the Delta State Government House Protocol Department. The investigation report stated that the funds were withdrawn from a Zenith Bank account operated in the name of the Delta State Government House Protocol Department. At the relevant time, the branch was reportedly managed by Mr. Monday Okowa,  senior manager at Zenith Bank who served as a representative for the bank's management and later moved to PremiumTrust Bank as its Regional Head in Asaba.
