Civil Society Urges Ekiti APC Leadership and Governor to Ensure Accountability in Handling Kolawole’s Re-Election Bid

Civil society groups have called on the Governor of Ekiti State and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across Moba, Ido-Osi, and Ilejemeje Local Government Areas to take a firm and principled stance regarding the re-election bid of Akinlayo Davidson Kolawole, the serving member representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency II in the House of Representatives.

The groups noted that as the party prepares for internal processes leading to the next electoral cycle, it is important for stakeholders at the state and local government levels to play a decisive role in safeguarding the integrity of candidate selection.

They stressed that the continued circulation of petitions and oral complaints relating to Kolawole should not be overlooked by party leaders within the constituency and across the affected local government areas.

According to them, Kolawole’s re-election ambition should be subjected to thorough internal scrutiny by APC stakeholders in Ekiti State, particularly at the grassroots level where the party’s structures are strongest.

They argued that party leaders in Moba, Ido-Osi, and Ilejemeje LGAs have a responsibility to ensure that candidates emerging from their zones reflect the values and expectations of party members and the electorate.

The civil society groups emphasized that Kolawole’s case, given the concerns raised in various quarters, presents an opportunity for the party leadership in Ekiti State to demonstrate commitment to transparency, fairness, and internal discipline.

They maintained that allowing unresolved concerns surrounding Kolawole to be ignored could affect public perception of the party’s credibility within the state.

They further urged the Governor of Ekiti State to use his position as a key stakeholder and leader within the APC to encourage a credible and transparent screening process. They noted that gubernatorial leadership carries both political and moral influence that can help guide party structures toward making decisions that strengthen public trust.

The groups also called on APC leaders across Moba, Ido-Osi, and Ilejemeje LGAs to prioritize due diligence in their consultations and recommendations regarding Kolawole’s candidacy. According to them, grassroots leaders play a critical role in shaping the direction of the party and must not compromise on standards that ensure accountability among aspirants.

They added that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress at all levels in Ekiti State should work in coordination to uphold internal mechanisms that prevent the emergence of candidates whose records may raise unresolved concerns.

In their concluding remarks, the civil society groups reiterated that the handling of Kolawole’s re-election bid would reflect the party’s commitment to discipline and integrity. They urged all relevant APC stakeholders in Ekiti State to ensure that decisions regarding Kolawole are guided strictly by transparency, fairness, and the broader interest of the party and the public.

They also encouraged continued support for democratic governance by maintaining respect for institutional processes under the administration of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while ensuring that political party structures operate independently and responsibly within the bounds of the law.
