Ogbeni Oja Kuku Reveals Untold Story Of How OGD Restored His Royal Honour @70




A prominent traditional chief and medical luminary, Dr. Sonny Folorunso Kuku, has paid glowing tribute to former Ogun State governor and senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, describing him as a “born leader” whose life embodies excellence across engineering, politics, and business.

In a detailed tribute marking Daniel’s 70th birthday, Kuku highlighted OGD’s lifelong commitment to discipline, mentorship, and service, noting that his rise to prominence was shaped by guidance from notable figures such as Obafemi Awolowo and business mogul Otunba Subomi Balogun.

He traced Daniel’s journey from engineering excellence where he became a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering to political relevance, including his role in the pro-democracy struggle alongside Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO).

Kuku emphasized that Daniel’s political tutelage translated into tangible achievements, including serving two terms as Governor of Ogun State and his current role as a distinguished senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.


Reveals Personal Intervention That Changed His Destiny 

In a rare personal revelation, Kuku recounted how Daniel played a decisive role in restoring his standing within the royal court of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.

According to him, he had fallen out of favour with the Awujale due to alleged misinformation by influential figures. However, in 2007, when Daniel was to be conferred with the prestigious title of Otunba Obalofin, he intervened directly, appealing to the monarch for reconciliation.

The intervention, he disclosed, led to his reinstatement in the royal court a turning point he described as pivotal to his emergence as the Ogbéni Oja of Ijebu.
“Without that intervention, I might not be Ogbéni Oja today,” Kuku stated.


'A Life Worthy Of Emulation'

Kuku further described Daniel as deeply religious, generous, and charismatic, noting his impact on countless lives and his enduring legacy as a leader worth studying by younger generations.

He concluded with prayers for longevity and continued influence for the celebrant, affirming that Daniel’s story remains a compelling testament to leadership, loyalty, and purposeful living.
