Northern Christians Hail Tinubu’s Nomination of Kashim Shettima As Running Mate

The Middlebelt Pentecostal Association (MPA) has warmly welcomed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

The group described the move as a demonstration of continuity, stability, and commitment to national development, announced shortly after the submission of nomination forms to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday.

In a statement issued in Abuja, MPA President Rev. Jolly Usman of the Grace Assembly praised the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, saying it reflects strategic leadership focused on addressing the challenges facing northern and Middle Belt communities.

The endorsement comes despite past debates over religious balancing in national tickets, with the association emphasizing performance, governance, and unity over sectarian considerations.

“We, the Middlebelt Pentecostal Association, wholeheartedly hail President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nomination of Kashim Shettima as running mate for the 2027 election,” Rev. Usman stated.

“This decision signals continuity in leadership and a clear commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda that has begun transforming critical sectors across our nation.

“As northern Christians, we have witnessed tangible progress under this administration, particularly in infrastructure, security initiatives in the Middle Belt, and efforts to bridge developmental gaps,” he added.

“Shettima’s experience and dedication make him the right partner to consolidate these gains.”

The MPA, a prominent body representing Pentecostal churches across the Middle Belt region, highlighted Shettima’s role in fostering interfaith dialogue and supporting humanitarian efforts in conflict-affected areas.

Rev. Usman called on other Christian groups to assess the ticket based on deliverables rather than religious composition alone.

“Vice President Shettima has demonstrated uncommon commitment to national cohesion. His collaboration with President Tinubu has yielded results in agriculture, education, and peace-building initiatives that directly benefit our communities,” the MPA president noted.

“We urge all well-meaning Nigerians, especially in the North and Middle Belt, to support this ticket for sustained progress.

“This is not about religion; it is about results. The Tinubu-Shettima administration has shown it can deliver for all Nigerians regardless of faith or ethnicity."

The MPA leaders pointed to improved farmer-herder relations programs and infrastructure projects reaching remote areas as evidence of inclusive governance.

Rev. Usman revealed that the association conducted consultations with member churches before issuing its position, arriving at a consensus that the current leadership duo offers the best chance for stability ahead of the polls.

“Northern Christians under the MPA stand firmly with President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima. Their joint ticket represents hope for a more united, secure, and prosperous Nigeria,” Rev. Jolly Usman declared.

“We have seen dedication to youth empowerment, which aligns with the aspirations of our young people across the Middle Belt.

“We call on the APC to mobilize effectively and on all citizens to rally behind leaders who have proven their capacity to govern in challenging times,” he concluded.
