Ado-Odo/Ota LG Commences Brooding Of 2,000 Pullers To Enhance IGR And Protein Availability
The brooding phase of a 2,000-pullet poultry project has commenced in Ado-odo poultry farm of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, marking a strategic step toward boosting Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and increasing household protein intake across the council.
The Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Lawal Adewale Wasiu, FCA, stated that the initiative is designed to create a sustainable poultry value chain within the local government area. Beyond improving egg production for local consumption, it will generate revenue, create employment opportunities, and strengthen food security for residents.
According to the Head of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Omidiji Ezekiel, the project will be executed in two phases. The first phase involves the brooding of 1,000 pullets, with another 1,000 to follow shortly, bringing the total to the targeted 2,000 birds. He added that, the first phase has commenced which involves the brooding of 1,000 pullets.
The project reflects the agricultural development agenda of Chairman Hon. Lawal Adewale Wasiu, FCA. The programme is a continuation of similar interventions he implemented during his tenure as Transition Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota LGA, underscoring his commitment to practical, people-centered agricultural investment.
Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, often described as the “Local Government of Distinction,” is currently the only council in Ogun State undertaking a poultry project of this scale at the grassroots level.
Once the pullets mature into layers, the eggs produced will be channeled into local markets and community nutrition programs, directly improving protein access for residents while contributing to the council’s revenue base.
The Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources has assured that biosecurity, vaccination, and proper poultry management protocols are being strictly followed to ensure optimal survival and productivity of the birds.
