NANS Warns Against ‘Name-Dropping’ of Governor in Ogun JCC Election, Declares SA Adeyemi Persona Non Grata

Concerned stakeholders in the National Association of Nigerian Students, Ogun State Joint Campus Committee, has become aware of troubling developments suggesting undue interference in its forthcoming election process.

As an independent student body, NANS remains committed to democratic principles, transparency, and the collective will of students across campuses in Ogun State. However, recent indicators point to attempts by the Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Students’ Affairs, Adeyemi Azeez Amoo, to influence the electoral process in ways that could undermine its credibility and integrity.

Reports reaching stakeholders within the student community indicate that there are moves to improperly invoke the name and authority of the Governor, Dapo Abiodun, to sway outcomes and intimidate participants. Such actions, if allowed to persist, risk creating unnecessary tension among students and could disrupt the peaceful conduct of the election. It is important to stress that the office of the Governor should not be misrepresented or dragged into student politics for personal or factional interests.

The independence of NANS JCC elections must be preserved at all costs. Student leadership is a training ground for democratic engagement, and any form of external manipulation erodes trust in the system. The alleged interference not only threatens the legitimacy of the election but also sets a dangerous precedent for future student governance in Ogun State. All parties must be reminded that the strength of NANS lies in its autonomy and its ability to represent students without fear or favor.

We therefore call on the Ogun State Governor, HE Prince Dapo Abiodun, to caution Azeez Amoo Adeyemi, to desist from any actions that could be perceived as interference and to respect the democratic space of the student body. Furthermore, relevant authorities and stakeholders, including security agencies, are urged to ensure that the election process is conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, devoid of coercion, misinformation, or undue influence. Students must be allowed to choose their leaders without intimidation or external pressure.

In conclusion, the entire student stakeholders in Ogun State stand by the position of the national leadership of NANS, led by Comrade Olusola Ladoja. We also reaffirm our commitment to a credible electoral process and urge all stakeholders to prioritize peace, fairness, and the collective interest of Ogun State students. Any attempt to manipulate the process or create tension will be strongly resisted within lawful and democratic means. The integrity of NANS JCC elections must be protected to uphold the values of student unionism and democratic participation.

Signed

Comrade.Adegunju Iyanda.
