Ogun West APC Senate Seat Causes Row As Gbeleyi Takes Handlers Of Primary Election to the Cleaners Over Consensus Candidacy
One of the contenders to the Ogun West Senatorial seat, under the All Progressives Party (APC), Rt. Hon. Olusegun Bolanle Gbeleyi, aka OBG, DS, has taken a swipe at the handlers of the Party's senatorial primary, held on Monday, 18th May, 2026, and passionately appealed to the Party leadership to review and reconsider the outcome in the interest of fairness, equity, and unity of the party.
Gbeleyi, in an open letter to the National Chairman of the Party, dated May 19, 2026, and copied President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC National Working Committee on Ogun State Party Primary Election Matters, and the APC Ogun State leadership, noted that the result of the said Primary was announced same day
the election was held, saying that act was "inconsistent with established national guidelines on announcement of results."
"Ordinarily, I would have extended my warm congratulations to our brother, who emerged as the so-called consensus candidate for the APC Ogun West Senatorial ticket. However, I am constrained to do so at this time, owing to serious concerns regarding the process through which the said consensus was reached," he said.
He contended that as a committed aspirant, having been actively engaged on the field for over six months, mobilising Party members, consulting stakeholders, and strengthening the grassroots base of the great Party across 59 wards, no invitation was extended to him, nor was he informed of any meeting where such a consensus arrangement was deliberated and agreed upon.
According to him, "While I hold the state leadership of our Party in the highest regard and appreciate the intent behind consensus-building as a conflict-avoidance mechanism, I respectfully submit that such a process must be inclusive, transparent, and reflective of collective participation by all duly recognised aspirants and stakeholders.
"In light of the above, I humbly appeal for a review and reconsideration of the outcome in the interest of fairness, equity, and the unity of our Party. It is imperative that all those who have invested time, resources, and loyalty into the growth of the APC are accorded a sense of belonging in decisions of this magnitude," he pointed out.
Gbeleyi noted that the collective aspiration of all Party members remains the progress, cohesion, and electoral victory of the APC, expressing strong belief that adherence to due process and internal democracy would not only strengthen party unity "but also enhance our credibility before the electorate."
He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the ideals of the APC, "to the success of Ogun West, to the emergence of our gubernatorial candidate, Distinguished Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, CON, FCA, YAYI, to the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term."
