Hon (Otunba) Stephen Olukayode Ogundipe (Omoj'omolo), representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has urged Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu, saying that things would soon get better in the country.

Ogundipe, Chairman, House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, who spoke during his birthday celebration on  Monday June 9, 2025 at 'The Triumph' in Oshodi, Lagos, stated that it is obvious that there is hunger in the land, but that the policies of President Tinubu would yield good results on the long run.

The lawmaker, who used the occasion to thank God for sparing his life, recalled that he celebrated his 60th birthday in 2024, but that his people still wanted him to mark it this year.

"President Tinubu's recent visit to Lagos State is a big plus for the state. We all know him very well and we know what he can do and what he cannot do.

"He was very sincere when he spoke with us, he said that the people should take it easy with him that he is going to see that this country comes back to shape. So we should bear with him.

"Yes, there is hunger in the land, but we have to go through some pains for things to get better. Nigeria is our country, we have no other place to go and we have the guarantee that things will get better.

"Sincerely there is still hunger in the land and the masses are feeling it. The President is trying to come up with so many other policies to cushion the effects, especially for the masses.

"That is our President and he is going to make things happen. We want to urge the people to give our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC),  a breathing space because it's a party that came in with struggle and after that we have so many things to do," he said.

Ogundipe then urged politicians and those at the helms of affairs to take things easy and work in tandem with the situation of things on ground.

He also called on rich people to stretch their wealth and let others feel their presence.

He said: "You know if you have one rich man in the midst of 100 people, the person is also poor. Whoever God has blessed should see how he can bless others. I also want to thank Lagosians for supporting our party.

"When President Bola Tinubu came in, he was able to meet stakeholders and some of the problems we are talking about have not been resolved. But I want to tell you that Lagos State is back on track as the President, who is our mentor, has spoken and we all heard him very clearly.

"Like I always tell people, we should, at every point in time, make sure that we spread development across the state. Lagos State is trying, but we should spread it round.

"The President belongs to everybody so also the Governor of Lagos State. In the Lagos State House of Assembly, we have 40 constituencies. Infrastructure and development projects should go round the constituencies."

On his accounts of stewardship, Ogundipe stated that as a first timer in the House, he is fortunate to be in the position that he is occupying in the there.

He however, revealed that he is working on three bills that have to do with development and what can be done to add value to humanity.

According to him, there are critical issues bothering on salaries of workers, adding that as a human resources personnel, he believed that there should be emphasis on how to train workers.

He said that in his constituency, there are roads that needed to be touched, saying that they have told the Governor, who he said has promised to come see things for himself.

"You can ask my people and they will tell you that I am on ground here. These two years have made it possible for me to study things in the assembly and my constituents have given me that opportunity to do what we can do to help them. We have so many things on ground and I have impacted them," he stated.

Also speaking in an interview at the event, Hon David Doherty, who represented Amuwo Odofin Constituency 2  in the Lagos State House of Assembly briefly, said that Hon Ogundipe is like an elder brother to him, and that he used to tell him when he was in the assembly that apart from the Speaker and a few others that they were all colleagues.

"Hon Ogundipe is a very reliable and responsible person. He draws a lot of people to himself. We have been together for about two years and I like him, may be some others might have other opinions," he said.

On lawmaking in Nigeria, Hon Doherty stated that the National Assembly and the states houses of assemblies are making good laws, and stressed that members of the Lagos State House of Assembly ensure that whatever they do is okay for the people.

He said: "Each legislator has to represent his people well. We make sure that things work out the way want them to be. I had been there and I see what happens there.

"There are issues and expectations, but we ensure that we do what we were sent there to do."

Hon Taoreed Adebayo Taiwo, the chairmanship candidate of the APC in Ejigbo LCDA in Lagos State, also described Hon Ogundipe as a man of the people, a grassroots person that wants the best for his community and strives for excellence at all times.

When asked about his experience for the job, he said: "I have experience in grassroots governance; I was the sole administrator of Oshodi/Isolo Local Government.
