Senator Abiru Distributes Food Packs To 12,000 Households In Lagos East To Celebrate Eid-El-Kabir
Senator Mukhail Abiru (APC Lagos-East) on Wednesday distributed food items to his no 12,000 members of his constituents ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The distribution took place at his constituency office in Ikorodu, attracting thousands who converged on the venue to pick up 10kg bags of rice and garri.
The gesture also covered residents of Ibeju-Lekki, Kosofe, Epe and Somolu Local Governments as well as Local Council Development Areas in Lagos East.
Beneficiaries were selected through an online process, to alleviate economic difficulties, particularly during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Abiru said the whole idea was to support President Bola Tinubu’s effort in ameliorating some of the challenges of the current reforms put in place to guarantee a better future.
He said that the challenges were only temporary, as the reforms, in the long term, would yield benefits for the country.
“The whole idea is to try to the best of my ability to spread prosperity moderately across the entire constituents.
“Our distribution in the past has always been minimum of 10,000, reaching out to political structures and all of the constituents.
"But today we are doing 12,000 which i think is fair enough.
“The selection is done online, which means that we can penetrate everybody.
“Twelve thousand is a fair number, if you are lucky you will be selected without knowing anybody,” he said.
The lawmaker expressed gratitude to the market women for their support and advised them to join a registered cooperative societies.
He urged them to form different groups and assured them that N10 million would be injected into each of them.
In his remarks, Alhaji Lukman Shonibare, former chairman of Community Development Committee (CDC) in the area, commended the effort of the lawmaker.
He thanked him for assisting households and the vulnerable, especially in the Sallah period.
Shonibare charged other representatives on empowerment, to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
Earlier, Princess Busola Isikalu, Iyaloja of Ikorodu, expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for his plan for market men and women.
She promised him that they would continuously support his political ambitions.
Also speaking, Mr Leo Joshua, a beneficiary, commended the senator for his kind gesture and support.
“I am very happy, it will support me and my family.
“Initially, we didn’t believe it, but now I have confirmed it; we pray for the distinguished Senator,” he said.
