Now, renewed discussions between the Ogun State Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) are placing the stalled project at the centre of a broader plan to transform the state’s coastline into an energy, maritime and industrial hub. The talks on the development of the OGLNG project in Ogun Waterside come barely a week after the state government signed Memoranda of Understanding with global ports and logistics operator DP World for the development of the Gateway Deep Sea Port and the 10,000-hectare Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone.   A Lagos State High Court on Tuesday heard the bail application of Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi and reserved ruling to a date to be communicated to parties.   The application was argued before Justice A.T. Muyideen, who had earlier adjourned proceedings to November 2026 due to the annual court vacation. However, the court brought forward the hearing of the bail application following concerns over the deteriorating health of the defendant.   Counsel to Akanbi, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, urged the court to grant bail on medical grounds, stating that his client’s condition had worsened in custody. The Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights (CHSR) has raised concerns over developments surrounding the ongoing murder trial involving Alhaji Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi and other defendants before the Lagos High Court, calling for greater procedural and administrative transparency in the handling of the case. The Court of Appeal in Abuja has cleared Fidelity Bank Plc of liability in a fundamental rights case involving Michael Kundera, overturning an earlier judgment of the Federal Capital Territory High Court. A three-member panel led by Justice Adebukola Banjoko delivered the judgment on 14 September 2026, allowing Fidelity Bank’s appeal and overturning the lower court’s finding of liability against the bank. The case originated from suit number CV/6258/23, filed by Michael Kundera to enforce his fundamental rights following his arrest and detention between 15 and 16 May 2023. He alleged that he was detained without being charged before a court or granted administrative bail. Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Abiodun Olatunji, has cautioned the Federal Government against recent pronouncements and actions concerning the state of the Benin-Asaba Expressway and the ongoing intervention activities on the highway. He advised that the Government should tread cautiously in considering any revocation of the subsisting concession agreement governing the expressway. According to him, the absence of evidence of abandonment, repudiation, or unreasonable delay in the execution of repair works may not constitute sufficient grounds for the unilateral revocation of the 25-year concession.
