Bago: Unveiling A Rare Phenomenon In The Niger

Image
By Okino Jeremiah Umar Bago has an energetic personality. Though a politician, he is not your everyday breed. He is a departure from the norm and is unafraid to be heard when it matters most. As Governor of Niger State, he has done what others could not do in years. He has changed the face of development in the state. But it came with a price.  Governor Umar Bago represents a dawn in leadership with the manner he had carried on in Niger State. His is a mix of passion, dedication and commitment. He has stayed faithful to his campaign promises of prioritising youth empowerment, quality education, and provision of basic infrastructure that would make life meaningful for the people.  We must agree that it is one thing for politicians to make promises and another for them to be fulfilled. It is an undeniable norm in Nigeria, and why hope seems lost for the ordinary citizens who have taken their destinies into their own hands.  In Nigeria, campaign promises are empty. It is a bane that refus

Festus Keyamo and His Brand Of Administrative Activism

Image
By Philip Agbese Festus Keyamo, the enigmatic figure at the helm of Nigeria’s aviation sector, has been a subject of both admiration and controversy. His unconventional approach to governance has polarised opinions, with some hailing him as a visionary leader and others questioning his methods. As the Aviation Minister, Keyamo has been unapologetically vocal about his commitment to reforming the industry, but his fervour for change has often been met with scepticism and resistance. Of truth, one can not discuss Festus Keyamo without acknowledging his unyielding dedication to Nigeria. His admirable cockiness and unwavering patriotism and willingness to stand up for what he believes in are undeniable. Keyamo’s refusal to conform to the traditional norms of governance has earned him both admirers and detractors. Some argue that his zealousness is a breath of fresh air in a landscape rife with bureaucratic red tape, while others caution that his approach may be too radical for the delicate

Image
The Asiwaju Legacy Vanguard (ALV) has raised the alarm over an alleged attempt by Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State and his political godfather Rabiu Kwankwaso to destabilise the administration of President Bola Tinubu.  In a statement signed by its President, Comrade Simon-Peter Adedeji, the group said it made this finding from credible intelligence gathering. Adedeji said the attack on the All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, is only a smokescreen in their well-planned agenda. The group noted that Governor Yusuf and Kwankwaso's aim is to infiltrate the APC by blackmailing the current leadership led by Ganduje.  Adedeji added that had they succeeded, they would have moved to the next phase, creating havoc within the APC and ultimately subvert and sabotage the President.  The South-west group further claimed that the pair would go as far as calling for the resignation of President Tinubu just like they did to Ganduje.  However, the youths war

The Oduduwa Development Congress (ODC) has disputed the claim of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that he played a significant role in bringing President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to power. The group said Wike's claim is merely a product of his imagination. ODC emphasized that Nigerians, not Wike, made Asiwaju Bola Tinubu their President, and his victory was a reflection of the will of the people. Addressing a press conference in Lagos on Monday, the president of the group, Oluwasanmi Sola stated that the FCT Minister should be grateful to President Tinubu for saving him from political obscurity. According to Sola, Wike's utterances and body language imply insubordination. "We would normally ignore Wike's claims as the

Yahaya Bello Urged To Follow AGF's Advice, Submit To EFCC By TMSG

Image
The Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG) has asked former Governor Yahaya Bello to heed the advice of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi and submit himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the courts of law to clear himself of allegations of financial malfeasance while in office. This, according to the group, is because the commission has not, in any way, erred but doing its lawful job by asking the former Kogi State's Governor to appear before it for questioning.  The group explained that EFCC is mandated by law to scrutinise and enforce accountability of persons in government positions, which is also in line with the anti-corruption policy of the President Bola Tinubu administration  In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Emeka Nwankpa and Secretary, Dapo Okubanjo, TMSG described the stand-off between the former Governor and the EFCC as unnecessary, saying it is an affront on the sanctity of the law an

A pro-democracy group,The Democratic Front (TDF) has said that the People's Democratic Party PDP can not arrogate to itself to deliver on the nation’s economy having plunged it into ruins for good sixteen years.  "Imagine a political party that failed woefully and landed the country in its present parlous economic state now pontificating on efforts to revitalize the national economy as if they ever had any clue. "Rather than bury their heads in shame because of the roles the former ruling party played in bringing the country to its knees, they are busy pontificating on the bold initiatives and reforms being initiated by President Bola Tinubu. In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman Danjuma Mohammed and Secretary Wale Adedayo while reacting to the communique issued by PDP at the end of it National Executive Committee meeting, the TDF argued that   the country has still not recovered from the mindless plundering of the economy in the PDP years.  it said: "The pos

They emphasised that almost all the previous administrations in the country have done little or nothing to develop Ogoniland, which they said
