When Ex-Lagos Lawmaker, Dipo Olorunrinu Reached Out To Abule Ado Residents After Pipeline Explosion







A former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, who represented Amuwo-Odofin Constituency 1 from 2015 to 2019, Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu further proved his love for the people of the constituency after the pipeline explosion that rocked Abule Ado on Sunday, 15th March, 2020 by providing succour for the affected residents of the area.

It will be recalled that the explosion, regarded as the worst in the metropolitan city, claimed about 20 lives, including those of some school children, displaced 276, destroyed about 170 houses, while 42 vehicles got burnt in the inferno.

Hon. Olorunrinu, known for his humanitarian gesture in and out of office, was filled with compassion as he immediately arranged for two meals daily for two weeks consecutively for the affected residents, security operatives and aid workers.

They were served meals such as garri and stew, rice, beans and bread amongst others, while he also provided them water and shelter throughout the period the gesture lasted.

Speaking to journalists at the site of the incident, Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu encouraged the residents and the security operatives on ground to keep the spirit alive, while expressing his displeasure with the way lives and properties were lost in the inferno.

Hon. Olorunrinu described the inferno as pathetic and appalling, while extending his condolences to the families of those, who lost their lives in the incident.










"Lives were lost, a lot of people are in the hospitals, properties were lost. So, I am here to put smiles on the faces of the people affected by the fire incident.

"I was born in FESTAC Town in Amuwo Odofin here, and I used to represent the area in the Lagos State House of Assembly. We are going to give the people food everyday for two weeks. We are giving them two meals per day.

"We want to take care of the security operatives and the people around here. I pray that God Almighty would restore all that were lost, heal those still in hospitals, comfort the families of the departed souls and grant the dead eternal rest," he said.

The former lawmaker stated further that Amuwo-Odofin is his home, and that he could not run away from his people despite what had happened.

He added that he had visited those in the hospitals, while calling on public-spirited individuals and well to do people in the society to come to the aid of the residents of the area over the fire incident.

In his comment, the Chairman of Oteyi Community Development Association (CDA) in the area, Mr. Chika Iledo said that people should thank God in all things.

Iledo thanked Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu for assisting the residents of the area with food and other items after the fire incident.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Mount Zion CDA in the area, Prince Walter described the incident as terrible, saying that he saw corpses of several people that lost their lives to the fire incident.

While thanking Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the state for visiting the site of the fire incident and for taking the matter to President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, Walter expressed his appreciation to Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu, who he said has always been there for the people of Amuwo Odofin.

He thanked Olorunrinu for providing food for the people of the area, adding that the ex-lawmaker is loved by the residents of the area "as a man with a heart of giving and someone that has shown that his love for the people of Amuwo-Odofin is unconditional."
