Kosofe Constituency 2 Bye Election: APC Aspirants Insist On Primaries -Why Abiodun Salami Is Favoured

The race to fill the vacant position of Kosofe Constituency 2 in the Lagos State House Of Assembly under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming Bye Election has taken a new dimension.

Sources revealed that the leaders of the party summoned the leading aspirants for the position to a meeting on Saturday and told them to stepdown for each other for a consensus candidate for the election slated for October 30th.

It was learnt that aspirants failed to reach an agreement on who should fly the party's flag.

They were said to have argued that they had all laboured for the growth and development of the party one way or the other and that it was late for them to give up now.

One of the leaders who spoke on a condition of anonymity, disclosed that the party might end up settling for the Assistant Publicity Secretary of the party and a leading aspirant, Hon. Abiodun Musiliu Salami as its candidate considering his long years of service to the party in the constituency and the state.

"The outcome of the meeting we had at the leadership level before we summoned the aspirants was that the Assistant Publicity Secretary of our party at the State level, Hon. Abiodun Salami should fly the party's flag based on his sterling records and excellent performance at that level.

"All the Council Chairmen, Omooba Sosanya,  a Commissioner in the state, Mrs Yetunde Arobieke, State Assembly Member, Hon Ganiyu Okanlawon (Kosofe Constituency 1), Alhaja Kafilat Ogbara, Pa Steven Oyedele, and a former Commissioner in the state, Hon. Bosun Jeje are strongly for Salami candidacy," said the leader.

"The leaders met with the aspirants and none of them was willing to step down for each other making it imminent that the aspirants will have to face the party primaries as spelt out in the party constitution.

"The leaders and the party are still hopeful that some aspirants will step down before the primaries as consultation continues," the leader said.

It will be recalled that about 10 aspirants are jostling for the ruling party's ticket to contest the Kosofe Constituency 2 bye-election to replace the late Hon. Tunde Braimoh who died few months ago.

The leading aspirants among them are; Hon Abiodun Musiliu Salami, Femi Saheed , Hon Abiodun Akhigbe and Yakub Balogun.
