Lagos Lawmaker Raises Alarm Over Conditions Of Schools, Roads in Epe

A lawmaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiodun Tobun has raised an alarm over the state of the schools and roads in Epe area of the state.

Tobun, representing Epe Constituency 1, spoke on the sideline of the visit of the House Committee on Education to some schools in the area on Wednesday.

The lawmaker said that many of the schools and roads that lead to Epe are in bad shape, and that they needed urgent attention.

He gave instances of Ogunmodede High School, Army Children School, Epe Grammar School, Odo Obara Secondary School amongst others, which he said were in a very bad shape.

"Most of the classrooms in the aforementioned schools and others are in a very deplorable condition and they don't have enough teachers and infrastructure in the schools.

"Some of the schools need upgrading and general overhauling. We have a lot of schools with

challenges in Epe, so the government needs to do more so that the people can feel that they are part of the state," he said..

On the abandoned building at Epe Senior High School, the lawmaker revealed that the contractor needed to be

given money to go back to site to compete the project.

The politician said that apart from the challenges in the schools, many roads in Epe like the one from Ikorodu to the area was like the road to hell.

"The three roads that lead to Epe are in bad shape. The Ogun State Government are doing their own part of the road through rehabilitation.

"Moreso, the expressway from Lekki to Epe is in a bad shape. Alhaji Aliko Dangote tried to rehabilitate part of the road but what he did was just a palliative.

"We must commend the state government that is trying to encourage Craneburg to finish the internal road, but the one that leads to Epe needs proper attention.

"The road has been like that for more than four years and we have moved several motions on it on the floor of the House. The rain is coming back and it would be difficult to go out of Epe or come to Epe," he said.

Tobun however, said that students and schools authorities in the area should observe COVID-19 protocols as the schools would be resuming, but that the shortage of classrooms and teachers were also serious problems.
