Nigeria @ 60: Lagos APC Women Leader, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, Says Its A New Dawn

The Women Leader of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Jumoke Okoya-Thomas has said that the 60th independence anniversary of Nigeria is a new dawn in the country.

Okoya-Thomas said in a statement that the country has a lot to celebrate in her 60 years of being a sovereign state, adding that her unity in diversity is a big achievement over the years.

The former member of the Federal House of Representatives posited that despite the challenges facing the country, it has remained a force to reckon with in Africa and in the world as a whole.

Okoya-Thomas therefore urged the people of the country to regard the current situation in the country as a sacrifice everyone has to pay for the nation to get to her Promised Land.

While recalling the days of military rule, the women leader stated that the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari means well for the country and that all hands must be on deck for us to create the nation of our dream.

"We must not allow the efforts of our founding fathers and nationalists to go in vain. The likes of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Tafawa Balewa, Anthony Enahoro and others worked and fought hard for us to be free from colonial rule and their efforts must not be in vain.

"Nigeria has a brighter future ahead and I believe so much that our current democratic journey that began in 1999 will lead to better opportunities for everybody in the nearest future," she said.

Okoya-Thomas used the opportunity to plead with the Nigerian women to follow the path of great women like the late Mrs. Olufunmilayo Ransome-Kuti, who she said took bold steps to show that the womenfolk are full of potentials.

While promising the entire women in Lagos State of her undying support, the women leader urged them to see the 60th independence anniversary of the nation as an opportunity to reflect and contribute their quota to the development of the country.

"I want to thank all the leaders of the APC, especially Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our able Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for their sacrifices and tenacity of purpose that have been giving the state and the country a new hope.

"Someone like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, especially worked hard with others to ensure that Nigeria returned to democratic rule and we must not allow their efforts to be in vain," she stated.

She then extended her congratulations to all the people of Nigeria, friends of the country, and added that Nigerians must continue to contribute their own quota to the development of the country in various capacities.
