Lagos Assembly Mosque Calls For Special Prayers As Muslims Celebrate 'Idul Adha'




Muslims have been charged to embrace peace, love, unity and cultivate the habit of forgiveness as well as embarking on fervent prayers for the sustainability of the democratic rule in Nigeria.


The Council of Imams, Lagos State House of Assembly Muslim Community made the remark as part of activities to commemorate 'Idul Adha.'

According to the Council, Nigerians need peace, prayers that would restore the past glory of the country.

These were contained in a statement signed by the Lead Imam of the Lagos State House of Assembly Masjid, Abdulshakur Adeleke Osoala

The council however highlighted the importance of 'Idul  Adha,' which is one of the two festivals in Islam. 

They said that it is an occasion to celebrate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Ismail, in submission to Allah's command.

"The essence of celebrating 'Idul Adha' is to imitate the sacrifice done by Prophet Ibrahim. 

"He was instructed by God to sacrifice his son, Ismail, he obeyed and did not argue with God," they said.

The council also indicated the types of animals that it's used for the celebration which includes ram, cow, camel amongst others. 

The council used the medium to celebrate one of the Imams, Alhaji Abdulqadir Oludotun Omoyele, who was recently appointed as the Chief Of Staff to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, which took effect since last week.

CSOs Demand Urgent Police Investigation Into Alleged Murder of Ishola Salami

Civil Society groups, including the Centre for Human and Socio-economic Rights (CHSR), Frontline Socio-economic Research Centre (FSERC), Campaign Against Impunity (CIA), Centre for the Physically Challenged and Peoples Rights (CPCPR), Community Women Initiative (CWI) and Workbond Initiative Network (WIN) have called for investigations into the death of Mr Ishola Salami by the Nigeria Police. United States of America (USA)-based groups; Ogoni-American Organisation, the National Union of Ogoni Students International (NUOS INTL USA), the Center for Democracy Human Rights and Anti-Corruption International (CDHRAC INT'L USA), and the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has written a letter to Shell Oil, United Kingdom on the purported onshore oil sale of Shell activities in Ogoni, Niger Delta, Nigeria.
