Court Declares Lagos Socialite Wanted Over Willful Demolition Of N800m Building

A Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square has issued a bench warrant declaring wanted a Lagos socialite, Sikiru Nollah, for conspiracy and illegal demolition of a building worth N800 million.

The property belonged to a Lagos developer, Hakeem Olawuyi.

Justice Sherifat Sonaike, issued the bench warrant after Nollah severally refused to appear in court since he was served with the information.

Sonaike ordered that the defendant be arrested anywhere he is found.

The Lagos State Government headed by Dr. Babajide Martins, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), had brought a charge to the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences sometime in April 2023, at No. 20A, Church St., Lagos Island.

DPP, in that charge, said that the defendant unlawfully damaged the property of one Kumefo Olaribigbe.

According to him, the property was managed by one Mr Hakeem Olawuyi.

He said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of the public peace.

Martins said that the offences contravene Sections 168(d), 350 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

Nollah had employed the help of thugs, armed with lethal weapons, to forcefully vacate the occupants and demolished the four-storey building.

The building, located at Number 20a, Church Street, Isale-Eko, Idumota area of Lagos Island, had 12 two-bedroom apartments, four self-contained apartments and 24 lock-up shops.
