Ogun APC Fires Back at Daniel, Labels Press Conference a “Sham” and Defends Suspension

The Ogun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a robust rebuttal to a recent press conference held by supporters of Senator Gbenga Daniel, describing it as a “sham” built on falsehoods and a desperate attempt to challenge his suspension from the party.

In a strongly-worded statement released by the party’s Director of Publicity, Nuberu Adesanya Olufemi, the APC accused Daniel’s media team of presenting “impostors” and coordinators of his private “Gateway Foundation” as “APC Leaders” to mislead the public.

The controversy stems from Senator Daniel’s suspension by the APC for alleged anti-party activities. The party insists the suspension was a result of due process, while Daniel’s camp has claimed it was orchestrated by Governor Dapo Abiodun over 2027 political ambitions.

The party’s statement directly challenged the foundation of the senator’s defence.

It pointed out a claimed inaccuracy regarding his ward, stating, “A basic check on INEC’s voter register would confirm that Daniel belongs to Ward 04 of Sagamu LG, Ogun State. That easily puts a lie to the fraudulent submission of OGD’s spokesperson.”

Furthermore, the APC dismissed the individuals paraded at the press conference as legitimate party leaders. “The list of people his team is calling ‘APC Leaders’ in Ogun East is fake. These individuals are actually Coordinators for his Gateway Foundation… Not a single Ward Chairman or Local Government Chairman is on that fake list,” the statement read.

The party vigorously defended the legitimacy of the suspension process, pushing back against allegations that the State Working Committee (SWC) was “compromised.”

"Pray, when this very same State Working Committee… ratified his candidacy for the Senate, did he complain then?” the statement questioned. “The real question people should be asking is this: by our party’s own constitution, did the SWC members have the power to do what they did, or not? That’s the core of this whole issue.”

The APC highlighted the credibility of the SWC members, naming Chief Yemi Sanusi, a former National Executive Council member, and the State Legal Adviser, a “seasoned barrister.”

The statement reiterated the charges against Senator Daniel, stating he was “credibly accused of working against the party” by conniving with the opposition and campaigning against the APC during the last by-election in Remo Federal Constituency.

It was noted that evidence was “corroborated by his media aide who said he did not work for Governor Abiodun.” The party also asserted that Daniel “consistently ignored summons” to defend himself against these allegations.

The suspension, according to the APC, was ratified after reports from his ward and local government were reviewed. “The complaints… were endorsed and signed by the Local Government Party Chairman, the Party Secretary, and other party organs,” the statement clarified.

Concluding the matter, the Ogun APC declared the suspension final, noting that the window for an appeal has lapsed. “The party’s decision on this matter stands… If the Daniel wailers want to wail, that’s their right; we can’t take that away from them. They can sustain their appeal on social media,” the statement concluded.

As of now, Senator Gbenga Daniel or his media team have not issued an official response to these latest claims from the Ogun APC.
