RE: FRAUDULENT SALE OF ITELE-AWORI KINGDOM AND ELECTION OVER THE STOOL OF ONITELE OF ITELE-AWORI VACANT STOOL AND THE CRIMINAL BREACH OF TRUST BY COMMISSIONER FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND CHIEFTAINCY AFFAIRS, HON. MORUF AFOLABI AFUAPE AND THREAT TO CAUSE BLOODSHED IN ITELE BY OLOTA OF OTA, HRM OBA KABIRU ADEYEMI OBALANLEGE- REQUEST TO INERVENE AND PREVENT BLOODSHED IN ITELE

The above subject matter refers. We the undersigned are the Head, the Principal members of Adogun Atele family and the Heads of Imidawo Ruling House, Oosa Ruling House, Ogunrounbi Ruling House and Alagbeji Ruling House in Itele as declared by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on the 16th December, 2011 in SC:200/2003- Alhaji Gafar Arowolo vs Chief Sunday Olowookere & Ors wherein the Supreme Court held that Adogun was the founder and first settler of Itele and the only family comprising of four Ruling Houses that are eligible to the stool of Onitele of Itele Awori, via Ota; Ogun State. Following the delivery of the Supreme Court Judgment, it became crystal clear that it is our family comprising of four Ruling Houses that are eligible to the stool of Itele. Immediately Olota of Ota, Kabiru Adeyemi Obalanlege was enthroned as Olota, he came up with idea of Ademola Asorota to be installed as Onitele of Itele and our family rejected his offer with his promise to bribe our family with N50 Million Initially, Olota of Ota directed Ademola Asorota who is from Iseyin in Oyo State  to be impersonating and parading himself as member of Adogun Atele. The said Ademola Asorota who is not from Itele and Adogun Atele family paid a condolence visit to Onilogbo of Ilogbo, Oba Samuel Ojugbele sometime last year when the royal father lost his wife and thereat Mr. Ademola Asorota impersonated and paraded himself as a descendant of Adogun Atele and also the younger brother of the Late Onitele Elect, Late Prince Taofik Musa on the directive of Olota of Ota, Oba Kabiru Obalanlege. Immediately we became aware of the impersonation of Ademola Asorota and the plans of both the Commissioner and Olota to lauder Ademola Asorota on Itele, we petitioned the Office of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ogun State and he was duly informed that Ademola Eletu Asorota is not from Itele and Adogun Atele family and therefore not eligible to the stool of Onitele of Itele and the Commissioner replied our letter and assured that since there is Supreme Court judgment, the government would comply with the Judgment.

On the 17th June, 2020 we became aware that the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ogun State, Mr. Afolabi Afuape, Alhaji Wasiu Lawal, the Transition Committee Chairman of the Council, Mr. Solomon Dada, the Director of General Service and Administration, Ado/Odo/Ota Local Government and one Mr. Opaleye Lukman have sold the Itele Kingdom for the sum of N100 million to Ademola Asorota and the sale was facilitated by both Olota and Bashorun Olanrewaju.

Sequel to payment of the agreed sum in cash to the government officials, the Commissioner through his Office released letter addressed to our family to the Local Government calling for the election to elect a candidate for the stool of Onitele of Itele

Consequent upon the payment which was facilitated by Kabiru Obalanlege, Mr. Solomon Dada, Alhaji Wasiu Lawal, the Transition Committee Chairman of the Council called for election on the 17th June, 2020 at the Local Government and upon becoming aware of the fraudulent election; we staged a protest to the council and immediately the council Chairman saw us, he quickly called off the meeting. We questioned him on why he did not inform our family being the only family the Supreme Court had declared to be eligible to the stool but the Chairman in his deceitful manner denied such election and information at the council. Again, we put a call to the Commissioner, Afolabi Afuwape who equally denied knowledge of such election on the vacant stool of Onitele of Itele.

Immediately after the protest on the 17th June, 2020 the Ministry released a letter to the Local Government seeking the election to fill the vacant stool of Onitele and the Commissioner directed election to be conducted. Consequent upon the letter of the Ministry, /Odo/Ota Local Government issued a letter/notice with reference No. AOLG:377 Vol. II/294 dated the 17th July, 2020 entitled: “RE: VACANT STOOL OF ONITELE OF ITELE OF ITELE CHIEFTAINCY: INVITATION TO AN IMPORTANT MEETING” and copy of the letter is hereby attached for your conviction of the criminal conducts of these men.

Sir, to our surprise the Council with Wasiu Lawal, Solomon Dada and Opaleye Lukman working in conjunction with Olota of Ota and his Chiefs and after their botched meeting of 17th June, 2020 rescheduled their meeting to the 24th June, 2020 at the Palace of Olota of Ota and in attendance at the meeting which was coordinated by Wadudu Deinde, Oloruba of Oruba and others in attendance are Olukotun of Otun, Ajana of Ijana, Olukosi of Osi, Bashorun Olanrewaju, Mr. Kazeem Talabi Ajiboye, Mr. Taofeek Bamishebi, Sansaliu Bamishebi; Jimoh Ojubanire, Oluyemi Ayinde Onifade and Shafaru Edun and secret Oaths were administered on the attendees by Oloruba, Wadudu Deinde not to disclose their secret election where they elected Ademola Asorota to the vacant stool of Onitele of Itele’

Sir, at the meeting, the sum of N20,000 was shared to each delegate and the Chiefs of Olota were given N100,000 each out of the N100,000,000.00 (One Hundred Million Naira) paid by Ademola to purchase Itele Awori kingdom from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs and Olota of Ota, Oba Kabiru Obalanlege. As directed by both the Commissioner and Olota, the attendees were all directed to impersonate as members of Adogun Atele family since the Supreme Court Judgment had declared that Adogun Atele family is the eligible family to the stool and at their meeting, Mr. Sansaliu Bamishebi impersonated Chief Taoreed Dada as the Head of Adogun Atele; Mr. Oluyemi Ayinde impersonated as the Secretary of Adogun Atele; Mr. Kazeem Talabi Ajiboye impersonated as the Head of Oosa Ruling House; Mr. Taofik Bamishebi impersonated as the Head of Imidawo Ruling House.

Sir, it is not in doubt and it is clear to the public of the transactions going on in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs of Ogun State whereby the Ministry Officials trade and sells Chieftaincy stools to strangers as against complying with the Judgment of court and a similar one was how the stool of Onilobi was sold out for monetary benefit and because we do not want such in Itele, that is why we call on you to intervene to save Itele and the Ministry from the government officials involved.

One would have wondered what is the interest of Olota of Ota in the stool of Onitele that he embarked on lobbying many personalities close to the family and offering us the sum of N50,000,000.00 to concede the stool of Onitele of Itele to Ademola Asorota with the promise that Asorota would make undertaking that none of his family members would ever ascend to the stool after him. On the 23rd July, 2020, Olota met with our family lawyer and pleaded with him to prevail on the family to concede the stool to Ademola Asorota and he would influence the Governor to create four coronets in Itele and the four would be given to Adogun Atele family.

Historically, it has never been on records that any Olota of Ota in the past has had any influence or forcefully appointed an Oba to fill the stool of Onitele of Itele, but since the emergence of the current Olota of Ota, Oba Kabiru Obalanlege he has done nothing but to cause acrimony and destruction of the age long smooth relationship between Itele and Ota kingdoms. Let it be categorically stated that Itele and Ota has a common boundary which is at Itamaje, that is to say that Olota of  Ota powers does not extend to Itele likewise Onitele has no power on Ota.

Sir, Olota also offer our family lawyer the management of Ademola Asorota’s properties but the lawyer rejected his offer and he insisted that the Supreme Court judgment must be respected and complied with. On the 5th July, 2021 Olota in company of Seriki, Bashorun Olanrewaju visited the Chambers of our family Lawyer, Chief V.A Odunaiya wherein he was pleading that Chief should prevail on us to concede the stool to Ademola Asorota. Olota of Ota has been promoting Asorota as friend of the Governor of Ogun State and that the Governor bought his land at Lekki from him.

Sir, following our refusal to concede the stool to the stooge of Olota of Ota, Kabiyesi has embarked upon impersonation and threat of war between Itele and Ota. In his threat, Olota of Ota was captured on phone threatening war and prior to that, he had threatened to cause unrest and bloodshed in Itele. Olota had been using masked individuals to be trailing our family members which include Mr. Adelaja Akanni Akapo; Chief Taoreed Dada; Mr. Sulaiman Obabiyi; Mr. Raheem Sadiku and Mr. Olanrewaju. One of his Chiefs was equally captured on phone when he said that they know that Ademola Asorota is not Awori but they with Olota would play the similar game they played in the emergence of the current Olota to ensure the emergence of  Ademola Asorota.

Sir, in one of our meetings with Seriki, Bashorun Olanrewaju, he told our family members that Ademola Asorota and Olota influenced the conviction of our family secretary who only sold his father’s property despite having judgments on the land.

On the 1st of August, 2021 at a public function at Oto-Awori, Olota of Ota publicly impersonated Ademola Asorota as a descendant of Adogun Atele and Onitele elect despite knowing same to be false. Olota of Ota is disgracing the entire traditional institution. He has threatened bloodshed if Ademola Asorota is not enthroned in Itele. We have our evidence against them and we challenge them to deny it so that we can release it to the whole world and the court of law.

Sir, the Commissioner, Moruf Afolabi Afuape, the then Council Boss-Wasiu Lawal, Mr. Solomon Dada and Opaleye Lukman need to answer the following questionOn whose authority was the letter/notice with reference No. AOLG:377 Vol. II/294 dated the 17th July, 2020 entitled: “RE: VACANT STOOL OF ONITELE OF ITELE OF ITELE CHIEFTAINCY: INVITATION TO AN IMPORTANT MEETING” written by Opaleye Lukman, When was the letter from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs read at their meeting of 24th June, 2020 written, and who was it addressed to? Why did Oloruba of Oruba Wadudu Deinde administer Oaths of secrecy on all the attendees that all that transpired at the meeting must not be leaked out? Were the members of Adogun Atele family under the Headship of Chief Taoreed Dada whose family the Supreme Court had adjudged as the only family eligible to the stool invited to the meeting of 24th June, 2020? Why were the attendees of the meetings directed to impersonate as members of Adogun Atele family? The sum of N20,000 each given to the electorates, what was the money meant for? The sum of N100,000 given to the Chiefs present, what was the money meant for? Mr. Sansaliu Bamishebi and Mr. Oluyemi Ayinde Onifade who impersonated as the Head and Secretary of Adogun respectively, are they descendants of Adogun Atele family? Who wrote and signed the letter from the Ministry that was read at the meeting of 24th June, 2020? Why did Commissioner deny the purported election to fill the vacant stool when a letter to that effect emanated from his Ministry? The sum of N100,000,000 paid by Ademola Asorota, what was the money meant for? or How much was paid to the affected persons to subvert the course of justice? Why did Olota lobbying family of Adogun Atele through their lawyers to concede the stool to Ademola Asorota? Why did Olota embark on threat to the lives of Adogun Atele family members and their lawyer? Did the Ministry ever notified Adogun Atele family either directly or through their family lawyer that their family letter in respect of Onitele stool had been forwarded to the Local Government for onward collection? On what basis should the election to fill the vacant stool of Onitele of Itele be conducted at the palace Olota of Ota

Sometime in May 2021, the legitimate family members of Adogun Atele was invited by to the Local Government to pay the sum of 5,000,000 Naira in preparation for the election to fill the stool of Onitele of Itele, what was the said money for?

Sir, we seek your intervention by summoning the affected persons to ascertain their level of complicities. As for Olota of Ota who has been threatening bloodshed, we would resist all his attempts to lauder a stranger on Itele and the appropriate security agencies would be notified accordingly.

Your Distinguished, kindly grant our humble request in the overall best interest of peace, solidarity and development of our beloved ancient town and the State in general.
