Polaris Bank, in partnership with Evolve Charity Trust, has successfully concluded its 2025 nationwide distribution of school essentials to 1,000 students across ten public secondary schools in five states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The initiative is part of the Bank's sustained Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to keep more children, especially the girl child, in school. This year’s exercise adds to a growing intervention that has supported more than 24,000 students in public schools across 49 locations since 2021. This year’s beneficiaries received a complete learning kit consisting of a school uniform, school bag, a pair of sandals, six exercise books and pens. A five-member panel of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Lawal Garba, on Friday ruled in favor of Fidelity Bank in its appeal against Sagecom Concepts Limited. Given previous rulings, this marks a significant victory for Fidelity Bank in a long-running legal dispute. The judgment brings definitive closure to a legacy case that has attracted attention across the financial sector for more than two decades. In a motion dated October 8, 2025, Fidelity Bank sought clarification from the Supreme Court, requesting a consequential order that the judgment debt be paid in Naira. The bank also asked that the interest rate be set at 19.5% per annum rather than 19.5% compounded daily. Additionally, it prayed that the exchange rate used for conversion be the rate on the date of the High Court judgment, in line with the Supreme Court’s decision in Anibaba v. Dana Airlines. Ogun State Governor and Chairman of the Southern Governors' Forum, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has mourned the passing of the deputy governor of Bayelsa State, Mr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who died on Thursday. In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Thursday, Abiodun said he received news of the death of  Ewhrudjakpo, who died at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, where he was rushed to the hospital after slumping on Thursday afternoon, with shock. He said the incident was particularly painful as the deceased was in his office attending to his duties when the incident happened, adding that he apparently defied illness to serve the people of Bayelsa State. The High Court of Ogun State Coram, Hon. Justice Catherine Ogunsanya delivered her judgement today in suit number HCJ/53/2025 (Hon. Wale Adedayo v The Governor of Ogun State & 2 Ors).  It will be recalled that Hon. Wale Adedayo had instituted the suit to challenge his suspension as the Chairman of the Ijebu East Local government Area. He alleged that Governor Dapo Abiodun had orchestrated his suspension and therefore sued him as the 1st Defendant.    Dismissing all his claims against the Governor, the Court held that the Local government is a separate entity distinct from the Governor. Ogun State Government, on Monday, raised the alarm on the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages, streets and other unapproved spots in the state, saying that violators risk both fines and jail time. The government, which handed down this warning through the Special Adviser to the Governor on  Waster Management , Hon. Abayomi Hunye, said it had observed in the past few weeks that most people in markets dump waste indiscriminately, polluting the environment and creating a climate of filth. It warned such people to take note of the provisions of the (2020) law establishing the Ogun State Waste Management Authority and other matters connected therewith. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the gallantry of Nigeria's military on Sunday for responding swiftly to the request by the Government of Benin Republic to save its 35-year-old democracy from coup plotters who struck at dawn today. Nigeria’s security agencies have reportedly uncovered a plan by some opposition politicians to organise protests in Sokoto and other northern states against President Bola Tinubu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu. The Ogun State Government has announced that residents caught dumping refuse on roads will henceforth be arrested, corrected with compassion, and assigned community service as punishment. Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya disclosed this while briefing members of the Governor’s Elders Advisory Council during their fourth quarterly meeting held at the Obas' Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Thursday. Oresanya stressed that the law forbids dumping refuse on roadways, noting that streets are not designated as dump sites. He explained that residents are expected to place their refuse in front of their homes for Private Sector Participants (PSPs) to collect directly at their doorsteps.
