Use Sports To Develop Nigerian Youths, Olagoke Tells FG




 
Nigerian Footballers, who wish to end their career as football coaches have been advised to be abreast of international standard  to fit in any time the clarion call beckons, while they were also advised to see a bigger picture and avoid national embarrassment by obtaining credentials required for them to serve as football coaches. 
 
The Founder  and Spiritual Head of Shafaudeen In Islam Worldwide, Alhaji (Professor) Sabit Ariyo Olagoke JP stated this during the opening of Rasool Cup held at the Railway Quarters Field, Dugbe Ibadan, Oyo State. 
 
While delivering his paper titled; "Train the Trainers," Olagoke, who is passionate about sports, urged the youths to see Finidi George as a case study on why Nigerian youths and the government must not take things for granted when it comes to youth capacity building need from amateurship to that of professionalism since at this level the youths or stars would be representing the interest of Nigeria.
 
Professor Olagoke, who is also the Arole Ogun -Elu of Aare Alasa dynasty in Ibadan, described Finidi George as a key player, who he said rose to become the Head Coach of Enyimba FC, but was denied a seat on the technical bench during CAF champions league due to lack of required CAF recognized certificate. 
 
The renowned Islamic cleric however, charged Nigerian leaders, especially those saddled with sports development at all levels, to invest adequately in sports so as to divert the attention of the youths from vices. 
 
"Sports is good for all as health enhancer. Sports generally promotes unity and political relevance of every nation, hence it is the engine room of any given society. The interest of the youths must be a major focus for sustainable development as recommended by the United Nations. 
 
"In the area of sports promotion, let us use the recent embarrassment meted to Nigeria through Finidi George, while he was representing the country at the CAF championship league recently," he said.
 
Olagoke urged Nigerian coaches and club owners to encourage training and retraining so that Nigeria can  nurture their ex- players to international Coach of repute. 
 
While speaking at the event, Mr. Adeniji Adekunle donor of Kabila Cup commended Prof. Olagoke for his steadfastness, dedication and commitment to promoting football and other sports activities from the grassroots to international levels. 
 
"He has been contributing his quota immensely and tirelessly to the growth of the community in all senses including sports and I pray that God will bless the Arole Ogun Elu with long life and prosperity," he said.
 
The match was witnessed by members of the Oyo State Football Association, President and executive members of Graftadean, and members of Shafaudeen In Islam Worldwide.

CSOs Demand Urgent Police Investigation Into Alleged Murder of Ishola Salami

Civil Society groups, including the Centre for Human and Socio-economic Rights (CHSR), Frontline Socio-economic Research Centre (FSERC), Campaign Against Impunity (CIA), Centre for the Physically Challenged and Peoples Rights (CPCPR), Community Women Initiative (CWI) and Workbond Initiative Network (WIN) have called for investigations into the death of Mr Ishola Salami by the Nigeria Police.
