What Caretaker Committee of SNA Achieved In One Year, Says Oyebo ....As Society Honours Deserving Individuals To Mark 40th Anniversary






Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Society of Nigeria Archivists (SNA), Mrs Yemisi Grace Oyebo has said that the committee has been able to move the society forward in the last one year, when it took over.
 
According to Mrs Oyebo, the committee was able to initiate a successful membership drive by expanding the number of enthusiastic members joining the society's WhatsApp groups to over 400.
 
Mrs Oyebo stated this during the 40th Anniversary of SNA, which held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) recently.
 
The event was also used to honour deserving individuals and members with various awards.
 
Speaking further on the achievements of her Committee, Mrs Oyebo stated that there were formation of regional and professional subgroups, re-affiliation of SNA with the international Council on Archives (ICA) and participation of the members in the recent ICA conference held in Abu Dhabi.
 
"There were development of a dedicated website, establishment of a robust social media presence, organisation of informative family meetings, hosting of webinars and commemoration of two international Archives Day events last year and this year," she said.
 
She added that the committee anticipates that the newly elected executives, chosen at the conference, "will surpass our achievements by the grace of God. I encourage everyone to extend their full cooperation to them as they endeavour to build upon and enhance what our outgoing committee has initiated."
 
Oyebo the appreciated all the members of the society, sponsors, and organisations that have conveyed their goodwill messages and bodies that have supported the society in various capacities.
 
She added that the 40th Anniversary of SNA was being commemorated, marking as a distinctive and significant event for all Record Managers, Archivists, Librarians, Historians and Heritage keepers.
 
"Our collective aim is to preserve, protect, and fortify records management across diverse sectors of the Economy and the Country's heritage, ensuring the continuity of our legacy from our forefathera for posterity," she said.
 
In his lecture at the event, Professor Gabriel Bunmi Alegbeleye, a distinguished elder of SNA, spoke extensively about the importance of record keeping and the need for organisations and government establishments to keep archives and records.
 
This was corroborated by another veteran in the field, Professor Abiola Abioye.
 
The awards given out at the event included Lifetime Distinguished Elders' Awards given to Professor Gabriel Alegbeleye, Professor Abiola Abioye, Brigadier Gen. Adisa Boss man (rtd.) and Mrs Roseline Oveisor.
 
Post Humous Awards were given to Mr Lafihan, Mr Lateef Akanbi, Elder J.B Daramola, Mr Kenneth Okoturo, Mrs C.A Ukwu and Mrs F.O Babalola.
 
Awards for Exceptional Service (SNA Caretaker Committee, May 2022 to November 2023) were given to the Chairman, Mrs Yemisi Oyebo, Deputy Chairman, Professor Olali Stephen, Secretary, Ikenna G.T, IT & Publicity, Otigbu Austin, Financial Secretary, Dr AllahMagani Khali, Past President (2017-2022), Professor Olutayo Adeshina and Chairman, Convention Committee 2022, Dr Kolawole Oseni.
 
Certificates of Exceptional Services were also given to members of the Working Committee.
