Agege Day Celebration: Obasa Urges Lagos Residents To Vote Massively For Tinubu On February 25

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has urged Lagosians, especially residents of Agege, to make good use of their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) in the forthcoming general elections by voting for the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to enjoy more dividends of democracy, describing the party's Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the only one with competence and capacity for the task ahead amongst the other contenders.

Obasa gave the charge at the grand finale Celebration of Agege Day and launching of  N500,000,000 (Give Hundred Million Naira) Agege Education Endowment Fund, which held on Tuesday February 14, 2023 at the Agege Stadium.

Obasa counseled the electorates ahead of the general elections: “To ensure they have their PVCs and if you have not done so, quickly go to the INEC office if it has not closed, to get your own PVC.

“Beyond that, make sure you vote right by voting for the person that is competent to serve you, to represent you and bring about the dividends of democracy and we, without second thought, strongly believe that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the most competent amongst those, who are vying for the presidency and that is why we are encouraging everybody that they should come out enmasse.

“It's not only about winning, we don’t just want to win, but win with massive votes  coming from Lagos to counter whatever will be coming from other places so that we can win convincingly and at the end of the day, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu can have a say as opposed to what we witnessed in 1999, when the president that emerged did not gain the support of his people.

"But this time around, we want our President to have the support of all of us from Lagos, Southwest and other parts of Nigeria.

“We are not just canvassing for him, we are canvassing for him based on his achievements, what we have witnessed and are still enjoying. You will agree with me that some of the roads constructed during Asiwaju’s era as Governor in Lagos State are still in existence and functioning properly.

“Most of the schools built during his administration known as Millennium Schools are still in good shape. talk about human development, those who have been empowered and established, I am one of them, are testimonies that this man can do a lot.

"His achievements are not limited to infrastructure alone, human development is also key, that is why we are calling on everybody to let us support this man. He has the competence and capability to do the job. So we want others to join us in ensuring the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu," he said.

Speaking on the essence of the N500million education endowment fund, Obasa noted that the government alone could not do it all. He urged well meaning individuals across the state to help raise the bar by contributing objectively by helping to construct a society devoid of social vices through provision of qualitative education, which he said will critically stem the ugly trend of out of school students that are constituting nuisance in the state.

“Basically the essence of achievement is to continue to build on it. We have so many people, who have passed through some of the schools in Agege and have achieved so much in their lives. Definitely, we want the coming generation to also follow this path by calling on these people, who have passed through Agege and the schools there to further support the current students that we have in Agege right from Primary School to Secondary school.

"The Government cannot do it alone, so we have to bring people together to support the government in training our children. We have so many people that are out of school, if they don’t want to go to school what else can they do?

“Through this endowment fund, we can equip them, support and establish them. That is why we are calling on everybody, not only the people in Agege, but those, who have passed through Agege, everybody in Lagos State and beyond to support us in Agege to continue to support education in the community.

“To support the infrastructure that we have now so that we can meet international standard and to support the children in schools now, particularly the indigent ones, so that we can help them and those in higher institutions l, who cannot afford to pay their tuition fees.

"It is also to further unite the people in this community. To bring them together to understand and to develop cordial relationship. To encourage the youths to shun violence in our community.

“It is an opportunity for us to bring every member of Agege community together and every tribe in Agege, being a cosmopolitan town; we have Ibos, Hausas and we have everybody in Agege.

"I want to bring them together so that we can sustain the relationship we have established among the Hausas, Yorubas and Ibos and also to create an opportunity for them to relate business wise, friendship wise, networking and every other thing. THis is the essence to ensure unity among the people of Agege.

“It is also to encourage us to establish cordial relationship, where none exist before. That informs our tag ‘Agege Day’ it targeted at bringing people from all walks of life together for the good of Agege.

“We are determined to entrench enduring crime-free and educational legacies that would bring uncommon progress to us in all areas of our socio- economic development.

"As your representative in government, I am standing before you to reaffirm that I would continue to make Agege my first.

“I will give all it takes to coast home every development opportunities for our advancement.

"As the Speaker of the foremost House of Assembly in Nigeria, I reassure you all that I shall continue to take Agege to enviable heights. I trust our people in Agege, we are passionate, we are Progressives, we speak with one voice, we love the APC and we will always stand by the party, now and always.

“This is why we are resolute to ensure massive victory for every candidate of the APC starting from our father and Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Mrs. Idiat Oluranti Adebule, Hon. Wale Ahmed, Hon. Abdulkareem Jubril to my humble self in the election that will happen in a few days from now,” Obasa stated.

Other lawmakers, who graced the occasion such as Hon. Setonji David, Hon. Jude Idimogu and Hon. Surajudeen Tijani were all unanimous in their call for massive votes from Lagosians to ensure the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President.

They urged the people in the various communities to ensure unity amongst themselves, stressing that the team spirit to uplift Agege community is paying off by the visible developments in infrastructure and human capital developments in the area.

The elated Chairman of the Organising Committee of the epoch making event, Hon. Afolabi  Ayantayo, Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Parastatals Monitoring Office, (PMO), while stating the significance of the week-long event which according him dates back to 1997, noted that the whole gamut of the programme were meant to make the celebration a grand one starting from the football match, to the beauty pageant, school debate and now being the endowment fund and launching.

“The funds that accrue from the endowment scheme will be used to mitigate shortfalls in educational infrastructure and much more in Agege area.

"Students that gain admissions overseas, but whose parents cannot afford to cater for their tuition fees can approach the endowment. When they graduate in the future they will be thankful and appreciative those, who come to their aid back then.

“That is why we are launching the fund to mitigate the social menace, which is what Agege is known for that will be obliterated and we can have a sane society.

"Before now, when people hear Agege, they were afraid to come there because of the activities of these school drop outs and their nefarious conducts," he said.

Ayantayo however, lauded Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa for all the dividends of democracy he has attracted to Agege owing to the fact that he is a sound voice for the people, which he said has attracted Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who he said has been able to impact positively on the lives of the peoples through infrastructure, education and healthcare.

He added that when the red line railway project is commissioned, it will help those living in Agege and working on the Island as it will drastically help reduce the man-hour being lost in traffic gridlocks on a daily basis.
