ASELGON Condemns Killings In Benue, Plateau ...Calls For Prayer During Easter

The Association of Ex-Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ASELGON) has condemned the incessant killings in Plateau and Benue States, where many families have been unexpectedly thrown into sorrow and mourning.

This was contained in the Easter message made available to the press by the association's media consultant, Mr. Oladele Ogunsola, where he conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the association through its National President, Hon. Albert Asipa to the governors of the two states and the bereaved families.

Describing the assailants as heartless and blood- thirsty felons, the association felt grieved that "as much as the Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is trying to ensure that this country progresses and moves forward, it is as if some agents of darkness are lurking somewhere, thwarting the noble efforts."

ASELGON is however convinced, according to the statement, that "no matter how hard the agents of darkness try, they won't succeed because darkness cannot overcome light as we urge all the security agents to remain committed and resolute in the pursuit of peace and security, not only in Benue and Plateau States, but in the entire country."

In the meantime, the association has congratulated Christians across the country on the celebration of this year's Easter festivity, reminding them that the purpose of the celebration which was self sacrifice out of love for mankind should not be submerged in merry making.

According to the statement, "we rejoice with all our Christian compatriots across the country on the Easter celebration for this year. As we in our respective domains celebrate the all important festival of love, we urge us all to spare some moments of thoughts for our fellow citizens being daily senselessly and heartlessly massacred in some of our communities in the country.

"The situation in our country calls for sober reflections and it is our humble request that we all use this opportunity to pray for our dear country and our leaders, especially the President, his vice and others in the corridors of power for wisdom and the necessary courage to drive home their progressive and developmental agenda."

While enjoining Nigerians, irrespective of religious belief to pursue love and seek peace among themselves, the statement remarked that the love of God for mankind led to sending of His only begotten son, Jesus Christ to the world to offer Himself as a sacrifice for their (mankind) sins, noting that "it is only by living in love with one another that we can please God, our creator, who has demonstrated to us what true love is by the release of His only son to die on the cross for us."
