Gbolahan Ogunleye, Lagos Lawmaker, Donates Table Tennis Boards To Ikorodu Schools ...Commends LASAA For Donating School Bags To Students
The lawmaker representing Ikorodu Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye, on Wednesday donated table tennis boards to selected schools in his Constituency to further promote sporting activities in the area.
Hon. Ogunleye also used the opportunity to commend the Lagos State Advertisement and Signage Agency (LASAA) under the leadership of its Managing Director/CEO, Prince Fatiu Akiolu, for donating bags recycled from used flex to schools in the area in conjunction with Omo Dada Foundation.
The lawmaker stated that the table tennis boards are meant to encourage the students to embrace extra-curricular activities, saying that schools are not meant for studies alone.
"The table tennis boards would help the students to keep fit, while in schools. Table tennis is a skill that will help them keep fit all their lives. Physical education will not just train the body, it will train the minds.
"The logo says; "Table Tennis is the number one brain game in the world." It develops your reflexes and thinking as you will learn how to think quickly.
"It's a win-win for the students, they get school bags and sports equipment to further develop their skills.
While commending LASAA for the school bags initiative, the lawmaker said that it will help the state to protect infrastructure as it is produced from waste flex that would have blocked the drainages.
He urged the residents of the state to keep all their used flex, saying that it is not all wastes that are wastes in the real sense.
According to him, people should avoid throwing away all wastes and keep some for recycling, adding that flex banners can be changed from waste to wealth.
Speaking on the donation of the bags made from used flex to Ikorodu Schools, the MD/CEO of LASAA, Prince Fatiu Akiolu, said that the agency thinks outside the box and that they discovered that flex used for banners could be turned to something useful like bags.
"We are turning wastes to wealth. We turn used flex to school bags. We started last year, and we have given out 2,000 school bags from the materials that are collected from individuals, mosques and churches.
"They bring them to our offices in the local governments secretariats and our head office. We turned flex into school bags in conjunction with Omo Dada Foundation.
"We have covered 10 local governments in the state and the more flex material we receive, the more local governments we will cover. We will soon cover all the 20 local governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state," he said.
Prince Akiolu however, commended Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye for the donation of the table tennis boards to the students, saying that it will give the students a form of relaxation as they could compete among themselves with the equipment.
In his comment, the Chairman of Omo Dada Foundation, Mr Omoniyi Dada, said that the school environment is where the students can learn in different ways, including playing of table tennis.
While speaking on the donation of school bags to the students, Dada urged private organisations to support the efforts of the government in promoting education, and commended the producers of Indomie Noodles for joining them in giving items to the students.
