Celebrating Seven Decades of Excellence: A Tribute to Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD)



Come 6th April, 2026, we'll be celebrating a remarkable milestone: the 70th Birthday of His Excellency, The Senator, Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel FNSE, FAEng, FNIMechE, a Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic and former Governor of Ogun State.

This is not just a Birthday; it's a testament to a life lived with purpose, achievement, and unwavering commitment to his people.

OGD's journey has been one of extraordinary accomplishment. A pioneering businessman, he etched his name in the history of elevator business in Nigeria and West Africa with his company, Kresta Laurel. Beyond his entrepreneurial success, OGD has built a loving family with his beautiful and virtuous wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel. Their union is blessed with wonderful children, reflecting a home built on strong values.

As a former Governor of Ogun State, served from 2003 to 2011, OGD left an indelible mark on the landscape. His vision and leadership transformed Ogun State, with his footprints evident throughout the Gateway State. From landmark infrastructure projects like the Gateway International Stadiums; Ijebu Ode, Sagamu, Ilaro to the establishment of key economic zones such as the Owode International Market, Sagamu International Market, Industrial Estates, Ogere Trailer Park, Ogun Guodong FTZ, Olokola FTZ, Sagamu Interchange Industrial Corridor, The 4 Gateway Polythenics; Saapade, Ijebu Igbo, Itori and Igbesa. Conceptualized, initiated and started the Ogun State Agro-Cargo Airport. Established TRACE, OGROMA, OGEGEP, OSAMCA, OGUNGRAD, OGRUMED, HUCAP, OGSEP. He implemented the multi campus system of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye and also moved OOU to its permanent site. Established the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ijebu Ode (Now a Federal University), Employed over 16,000 Teachers in his 8years tenure. Built Block A to D at Oke Mosan Secretariat, Abeokuta. Built the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Sagamu (the best so far in the Nation), He established the College of Nursing in Ilaro, and built a lot of General Hospitals to provide secondary health care services for his people and so on. OGD tenure was marked by significant progress and development, as there is practically no part of the State that OGD did not have his footprint of development.

This unwavering dedication to public service led him back to the political arena, returning to the Senate in the 2023 election after a 12-year hiatus. His return is a clear indication of his enduring popularity and the trust his constituents place in him. It is worth noting that he was investigated by the EFCC on alleged corruption for over 10 years, and he was cleared of all the allegations. This served as another test of his character and reputation.

OGD's popularity extends beyond political circles; he is deeply loved and respected by all strata of society in Ogun East, Ogun State, and Nigeria as a whole. From market men and women to students, youths, artisans, civil servants, the elderly, and the handicapped, he has touched countless lives with his generosity, compassion, and unwavering dedication through his Gateway Front Foundation "GFF", and Gateway Movement.

Gbenga Daniel (Otunba Obalofin of Ijebuland, Arole of Remo/Asiwaju Onigbagbo of Remo Christian, Olunla of Egbaland, Oganla of Yewaland, Gbobaniyi of Iwopin Kingdom, Otunba Atunluse of Abigi Kingdom, Asoju Oba of Ijeshaland and Fesojoye of the Source) a very Happy 70th Birthday. 

May this new decade bring him continued health, happiness, and the opportunity to continue making a positive impact on the lives of others.

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in collaboration with the Centre for Citizens’ Rights has urged the Inspector General of Police to rebuild public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
